Type Locality and Naming

The type section lies at Sarbulak Gully, southwest of Harjiawu, Jimunai (Jeminay) County, Xinjiang. It was named by Zhang Zixin in 1986.


Lithology and Thickness

Volcanics and Sandstone. A suite of continental pyroclastic rocks, clastic rocks and intermediate-acid lava, intercalated with mineable coal seams. At the named locality, it is composed of feldspar porphyry volcanics, diabase-porphyrite, andesitic porphyrite, acid volcanic breccia, pebble sandstone, fine-grained sandstone and siliceous siltstone. Exposed thickness 592 m.

In the Nalinkalatawu area, it is composed of dark green thick-bedded tuffs and basalt porphyrite in the upper part, and gray thick-bedded calcareous lithic sandstone intercalated with fine-grained conglomerate and sandy limestone in the lower part, also containing Ancara flora. Exposed thickness 1416.6 m; neither the top nor the bottom are seen.

Conformable contact with the underlying Lower Carboniferous (either Hongshanzui Fm or coeval Nalinkala Fm)

Conformable contact with the overlying Qiaqihai Fm

Distributed at the north slope of Sawuer Mt. and around Nalinkalatawu.
